Provisions
or injurious effects, or he shall cause the vapour to pass directly from the pan or press through a fire, or into a suitable con- densing apparatus and then through a fire in such a manner as effectually to consume the vapour or to deprive the same of all noxious or injurious properties.
156. No persons (other than two caretakers in respect of each block of buildings) shall be allowed to pass the night in any of the rooms used as work rooms unless actually engaged in carrying on works connected with the trade.
157. Every licensee shall cause every drain or means of drainage upon or in connection with the premises where his trade is carried on to be maintained at all times in good order and efficient action. He shall, where it is in the opinion of the Council necessary so to do, provide the drains on his premises with the appliance known as a grease trap and shall not pass or permit to be passed any hot liquid refuse (i.e., above 100° Fahr.) into the drains or sewers.
158. Every licensee shall, at all times, afford free access to every part of the said premises to any member of the Coun- cil, Health Officer or Sanitary Inspector.
159. No person under the age of ten shall be permitted upon any premises used for the trade of rag-picking, rag- storing, hair-cleaning, feather-storing, or feather-cleaning.
160. The Council may require the adoption of such special measures and appliances as may seem to them to be necessary in the case of dusty offensive trades for mitigating as far as possible the danger and nuisance arising from the dissemination of dust through the atmosphere of the premises, and in the case of the trade of rag-picking, rag-storing, hair- cleaning, feather-storing, or feather-cleaning, for disinfection of the premises and the materials used and for the destruction of vermin therein.
161. The licensee shall cause a duly authenticated copy to be posted of sections 147-161 in English and Chinese to be hung up in a
conspicuous position in his premises.

Keeping of Cattle, Swine, etc,
162. The keeping of cattle, swine, sheep or goats with- out a licence from the Urban Council is hereby prohibited, and cattle, swine, every person who keeps any such animal, either without a licence from the Council or in a manner contravening such sanitary conditions as may be indorsed on such licence, shall Le liable to a fine not exceeding fifty dollars, and further, to forfeit all or any of the animals in respect of the keeping of which he has so offended.

163. No person shall bring into the Colony, or drive, carry, transport, remove, or have or keep, or knowingly suffer to be had or kept under his control or on his premises, any animal or other creature in any way which may cause it need- less or avoidable suffering.
164. Annual licences expiring on the 31st December of Licences the year in which they are granted shall be issued for the expire in keeping of cattle, swine, sheep and goats.

165. Any person desirous of obtaining a licence to keep Application cattle, swine, sheep or goats shall make application to the Council by means of a properly filled in form, for which purpose blank forms can be obtained from the Secretary at his office.

166. No building in which cattle, swine, sheep or goats Regulations are housed shall be situated nearer than six feet to any dwell- as to animal ing house nor shall such building in any way connect with a public or private sewer except with the special permission of the Council. Such building shall be built of brick or stone or other material to be approved by the Council and shall be lighted and ventilated to the satisfaction of the Council, and the flooring thereof shall be of granite slabs, concrete, or other impervious material and provided with watertight channels for draining all urine and fluid noxious matters into a water- tight covered sump or such other place as may be approved by the Council. The sump shall be constructed to the satisfaction of the Council and shall be emptied and the contents thereof together with the solid manure in the building removed daily. The Council may, however, waive any of these conditions, provided that in the opinion of the Council such can be done without danger to the public health,

167. Each cow shall have at least thirty-two square

171. 173.
